This presentation will draw on a wide range of scholarly research and best practices related to talent identification and development in sport. It will begin by discussing some of the key challenges, and some promising solutions, to identifying those prospects with the greatest potential to become the elite performers of the future. It will then describe the essential characteristics of some of the most successful athlete development environments in the sporting world.
Finally, it will offer a new conception as to how the Alberta Sport System, and each sport within it, might re-imagine our approach to talent identification and development for the benefit of the many athletes who we serve.
Sport Reflects the Principles of Inclusive Athlete Developmental Environments
This session will aid organizations in understanding hot legal topics effecting the sport sector. This presentation will expand on topics such as employees vs. contractors, conflict management, the legalization of cannabis, waivers and more. Awareness and education is a powerful tool to minimize legal risks.

This session will provide a brief summary on the current Canadian sport landscape as well as challenges at the International level. Participants will be provided with tangible tools and resources to help increase their knowledge and awareness.
Many organizations state they’re aware of the positive impact embracing diversity and inclusion can have for their teams both personally and professionally. And they have good intentions and have begun efforts but aren’t sure what a true diversity and inclusion program could look like at the next level.
