In this fast paced session attending delegates will have the opportunity to rotate through and participate in a series of round-table discussions on the impact of sport hosting at the regional and municipal level throughout Alberta.
Sport Tourism Leaders and Representatives from Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray / Wood Buffalo, Leduc, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge along with Hockey Alberta will lead the discussions. Topics will include Building a Sport Tourism Portfolio in your Community, Formalizing the Bidding Process, Working with the Sport Organization after you have won the Bid, Community Building and Engagement, Community Building from a Volunteering perspective and how Hockey Alberta has developed their Provincial Championships bid packages and assesses proposals from communities through their hosting allocation process.
An exciting way to learn about what a community can do for your sporting event
This business to business marketplace allows destinations and sporting event rights holders to quickly meet and explore hosting opportunities in a fast, efficient, and fun environment. For this session, you will be assigned a set of appointments (5-7 ‘dates’ lasting 12-15 minutes each).
A maximum of two people from your sport organization may sit together at your table and take part in the appointments.
Blair McIntosh a long-time amateur sport leader will bring greetings in his new role as the President of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance.
Sport Tourism is one of the fastest growing segments within the tourism industry and Canada is seen as a preferred sport tourism destination. The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance promotes the development of partnerships between event rights holders and host cities, measures the economic impact of sport events and enhances the profile of sport tourism.
Blair will share his overall assessment of the inaugural Alberta Provincial Sport Tourism Conference and make an announcement in regards to the 2020 Sports Events Congress.
