Alberta Sport Connection and its provincial sport tourism partners welcome you to the 2019 Alberta Sport Leadership Conference from May 1-4, 2019 at the River Cree Resort in Edmonton. The opening session of the Provincial Sport Tourism Pre-Conference will provide you with the opportunity to check-in, hear about the event and schedule, meet your industry peers and colleagues and join other conference delegates from the sport sector in a networking social. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available.
In this session, Dr. Tom Hinch will highlight the synergistic relationship between the two global phenomena of sport and tourism. The advantages of sport as a tourist attraction are then discussed along with a typology of sport tourism that that can be used to formulate strategic plans.
The session will then close by identifying resources that you can use to capitalize on the opportunities that sport tourism provides to your organizations and communities.
An exciting way to learn about what a community can do for your sporting event
This business to business marketplace allows destinations and sporting event rights holders to quickly meet and explore hosting opportunities in a fast, efficient, and fun environment. For this session, you will be assigned a set of appointments (5-7 ‘dates’ lasting 12-15 minutes each).
A maximum of two people from your sport organization may sit together at your table and take part in the appointments.
Blair McIntosh a long-time amateur sport leader will bring greetings in his new role as the President of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance.
Sport Tourism is one of the fastest growing segments within the tourism industry and Canada is seen as a preferred sport tourism destination. The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance promotes the development of partnerships between event rights holders and host cities, measures the economic impact of sport events and enhances the profile of sport tourism.
Blair will share his overall assessment of the inaugural Alberta Provincial Sport Tourism Conference and make an announcement in regards to the 2020 Sports Events Congress.
