This presentation will draw on a wide range of scholarly research and best practices related to talent identification and development in sport. It will begin by discussing some of the key challenges, and some promising solutions, to identifying those prospects with the greatest potential to become the elite performers of the future. It will then describe the essential characteristics of some of the most successful athlete development environments in the sporting world.
Finally, it will offer a new conception as to how the Alberta Sport System, and each sport within it, might re-imagine our approach to talent identification and development for the benefit of the many athletes who we serve.
