The Alberta Sport Connection is pleased to announce the launch of our Conference Website and Registration is now open for the 2017 Alberta Sport Leadership Conference, April 27-29, 2017. www.absportleadershipconference.ca  is your one-stop source for all of the Conference information and details.

Alberta Sport Connection will be presenting their seventh Alberta Sport Leadership Conference at the Banff Centre; a scenic backdrop for sector colleagues, stakeholders and partners to share knowledge, information, network and collaborate.

* Registration fees prior to April 14th will be $300.00 and will increase to $375.00 after that date.  There are also registration options for students and single day registrants.

* Payment Options will include all major credit cards only. 

* Registration for the Alberta Sport Leadership Conference will be through the Coaching Association of Canada Locker https://thelocker.coach.ca/event/registration/1540 site . Registrants will need to create a user profile if they are new to the system.

* Banff Centre Accommodations can be made online by booking under the Group Name: 2017 Alberta Sport Leadership Conference Please book by March 27th to guarantee accommodation on site.

 

* Conference Schedule includes:

  • Thursday, April 27 – Conference Registration, Opening Keynote – Jennifer Moss ”Unlocking Happiness at Work” followed by the Celebrating Sport in Alberta Networking Social
  • Friday, April 26 – Plenary Sessions, Concurrent Workshops and a Panel Presentation focused on Strategies for Increasing Female Participation In Sport, and the Celebrating Sport in Alberta Sport Recognition Awards Banquet with guest Master of Ceremonies 2014 Alberta Olympian Speed skater Gilmore Junio; a former Junior Male Athlete (2010) of the Year Award Recipient.
  • Saturday, April 27 – Plenary Sessions, Concurrent Workshops and the Celebrating Sport in Alberta Closing Luncheon featuring Mark Tewksbury as the host along with Alberta Summer Olympians and Paralympian’s from the 2016 Rio Games.

 

* The theme of this year’s Conference is Celebrating Sport in Alberta and the Conference Program has been established around five principles of Quality Sport including:

  • Sport is led by Quality Coaching
  • Sport Organizations demonstrate Excellence
  • Sport reflects the Principles of Athlete Development
  • Sport is delivered in a Safe and Ethical Manner with a focus on Concussions in Sport
  • Sport is Inclusive and Accessible to Under-Represented Populations with an emphasis on Increasing Participation for Females

 

Of special note Friday evening, the Alberta Sport Connection will recognize the outstanding sport achievements of Albertans at the Celebrating Sport In Alberta Sport Recognition Awards Banquet.

2017 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif Conference

The Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif Conference will be taking place November 2-4, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta. This is Canada’s conference for coaches, researches, sport executives, and administrators. It consists of three full days of learning, professional development, and networking. The conference will strengthen leadership in the Canadian sport system with the following objectives:

  • Educate delegates through collaborative and quality breakout sessions with tangible take-away skills
  • Inspire delegates with topical and respected keynote speakers
  • Unite colleagues from sport organizations and energize and broaden potential networks of interest
  • Recognize and celebrate Canada’s top coaches at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala.

Session proposal submissions are due May 12, 2017. Registration opens in June.

International Physical Literacy Conference 2017

Every individual embarks on a physical literacy journey. By developing physical literacy across the lifespan, individuals empower themselves to be better at work, better at physical activities and sport, have better mental health and happiness, and better engage with their community. This is the premise behind the International Physical Literacy Conference 2017 (IPLC2017), which takes place April 12-15 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, Ontario.

 

We want you to join Sport for Life in Toronto for four days of physical literacy presentations, activities, best practices, and more.

 

You will have your choice of more than 85 presentations delivered by over 120 presenters. From this, there will be 18 international presentations coming from 6 different nations, Presentations have been categorized by stream:

  • Awareness — The development, distribution and communication of common messaging about physical literacy.
  • Education and Training — The development and delivery of appropriate educational and training platforms, which build and sustain capacity for infusing physical literacy into programs.
  • Resources and Tools — The development of resources and tools that guide and support communities, stakeholders and partners to improve knowledge, alignment and cooperation across sectors.
  • Engagement and Programming — How to activate your community through a system of education, training and mentoring initiatives.
  • Policy and Strategy — Policy and strategy as a major component of placing quality sport and physical activity into the master plans of governments and organizations.
  • Research and Evaluation — The research needed to build evidence for successful, sustained interventions.

Live Active Summit

The 2017 Live Active Summit is taking place April 6-8 at the Commonwealth Recreation Centre in Edmonton. This summit is a catalyst to educate, engage, and bring to life active living, active recreation, and sport in a school and community setting. It will involve collaborative work around physical literacy and share successful practices from across the province. The goal of this summit is to highlight and experience best practices that have clear, tangible outcomes.
