Allison Sandmeyer-Graves, CEO of the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) will moderate a panel session that will explore the efforts, impacts, challenges and learnings of two Alberta PSOs that have introduced initiatives aimed at improving gender equity in their sport. The panel includes:
- Vicki Harber, Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta and Consultant, Sport 4 Life
- Richard Adams, Executive Director, Alberta Soccer Association
- Rob Litwinski, Executive Director, Hockey Alberta
- Kendall Newell, Manager Female Hockey, Hockey Alberta
This plenary session will highlight case studies from Alberta Soccer and Hockey Alberta and their initiatives to include and invest in women and girls within their respective sports. Through discussion, the panel will explore how the approaches taken by these associations align with recommended approaches to engaging girls and women, and what can be done going forward.
Attendees of this session will walk away with insight to form a business case for advancing gender equity in their organization, knowledge of key design considerations for engaging girls and women, perspective on the nature of leadership required to drive this forward awareness of the resources and supports available to them, and an increased motivation to take action.
